Have You Noticed Our Changes?
We have been hard at work remodeling and there's more to come! Our goal is to become Jacksonville’s premier music school.
There are lots of new things coming up! Stay Tuned!
Field Trip!
We would like to take some of our students to a concert, The Victor Lin Jazz Trio, on Friday, March 5th. In order to make this happen, we will need chaperones and drivers. If you can help in this area, you will be helping students to be exposed to some excellent music and you can stay and enjoy the concert as well. The cost is FREE! Victor’s primary focus has been on education. He has been on the faculty of the prestigious Stanford Jazz Workshop for the past eleven years, taught at the Mark O’Connor Fiddle Camp for three years, and currently directs the jazz program at The Calhoun School, a private progressive education school on the upper west side of Manhattan.
Victor has always been focused on a larger scope of education with students of all ages, exploring how best to use music as a means of education about larger issues of culture, race, and society. As a first generation American-born Taiwanese, Victor hopes that his skills as a musician and an educator will serve to raise awareness and break down perceptions of the stereotypes of all races and cultures.
Updated Student Information
It is vital that we have your student’s current contact information including phone numbers, addresses and email addresses. In the event that your teacher needs to reschedule a lesson, we want to be able to reach you.
We would like to send our newsletter out via email, so please make sure we have a current email address for you. We are also checking into having it put on our website: www.jacksonvilleschoolofmusic.com. We’ll let you know when that happens.
Spring Soiree’ Recital
We are currently planning our recital to be held on April 11th at the Friday Musicale. If you have not seen this stunning building, log onto their website, www.fridaymusicale.com We need some parent volunteers to help with planning refreshments and decorations. We want to make this recital the biggest and best ever! Our students deserve it for all of their hard work. Please call Vicki in the office if you can
help with this.
Music Appreciation Class
In many cases when your student is taking a private lesson, there is simply not adequate time to teach them about musical ideas that will be vital to their further musical studies. The music appreciation class will teach instrument families, how to recognize different genres of music, stories and facts about the great composers, and will round out your student’s music education. We do need a minimum number of students for the class to be offered and space is limited, so please let us know soon if you are interested. The class is tentatively scheduled for Monday evenings from 5:30 until 6:30, and will cost $50 per student for the eight-week class. This is just a little over $6 a lesson! As soon as the minimum number of students has signed up, we will be able to give you a confirmed start date.
As always, thank you for the privilege of providing music lessons to you and your family. If you have any suggestions or questions, please do not hesitate to call.
