Johanna Nordhorn - Voice
Praised for her warmth of tone and spirit, Mezzo-Soprano Johanna Nordhorn has graced audiences across the nation with her heartfelt performances and exotic sound.
Originally hailing from Winter Park, FL, Johanna received her Masters Degree from Indiana University and accepted positions as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in 2011 and 2013, where she most notably covered international opera star Denyce Graves and sang a concert of Ricky Ian Gordon's music with the composer at the piano. She spent the last 10 years living in St. Louis, MO, during which she won the Southern Illinois Young Artist Competition, placed at the Metropolitan National Council Awards, was awarded the title of "St. Louis's Best New Opera Singer" in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, and received an Individual Artist’s Grant from the Regional Arts Commission. She has also been a featured soloist with the nationally recognized St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Union Avenue Opera, Gateway Opera, Opera Saratoga, and the Kingsbury Ensemble.
Johanna loves to teach and has been doing so at the collegiate and private level for 13 years. She has sent many wonderful singers off into their own professional musical careers as performers, educators, and music therapists. Although her accomplishments may sound serious, she is a child at heart and enjoys teaching any age. She recently moved to Jacksonville, FL to live near the beach with her husband, Dan, and dog, Abby
