Lilli Elliott, Cello
Rooted in music since age 8, Lilli’s first instrument was guitar and then upon entering middle school at age 10 she chose to learn the cello and join orchestra. A passion for cello soon started to grown inside her as she began taking lessons in seventh grade. At the beginning of her eighth grade year she participated in the All State Middle School Orchestra and when the end of eighth grade rolled around she took an audition and got accepted into the rigorous Lois Cowles Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts in Lakeland, Florida.
Along with continuing lessons, at Harrison Art’s Center she received one of a kind opportunities for a high school musician such as performing in a world renowned symphony comprised of high schoolers like herself for four years, all of the music being original classical literature as well. Along with participating in the Polk All County Orchestra for six years and being principal cellist of the 11/12 orchestra her senior year, she has also participated in pit orchestras for musicals such as ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘West Side Story’, and most recently ‘The Wiz.’ Along with this experience, she is also very skilled in numerous style’s of playing such as Baroque, Classical, and Contemporary. She has been playing in a symphony for six years now, as a soloist, and a musician in small chamber ensembles such as quartets, duets, and trios for seven years.
Her senior year at Harrison she was principal cellist of the symphony and was a member of the Harrison String Quartet which operated under the school and as freelance musicians. Lilli has been doing gigs and teaching lessons for three years now and believes that different experiences and being in different scenarios playing music for others is a great opportunity and helps to shape us through music. Along with that thought, she has become extremely passionate about teaching as well. She was an intern at the Golden Isles Youth Orchestra summer camp this past summer in Brunswick, Georgia and there she had the opportunity to work with young instrumentalists and cellists from ages 7-18 on classical literature, ensemble and solo work, and basic/advanced music fundamentals. She has brought together what she has been taught over nine years from taking private lessons into her own hands to influence her style of teaching. Lilli is currently a sophomore music performance major, and co-principal cellist of the Jacksonville University Orchestra at Jacksonville University. After receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from JU in performance, she plans on attending graduate school in cello performance or possibly education, and has future plans to join a professional symphony and continue to teach through her own private studio.
